Learning Outcomes

Upon successfully completing this course, you should be able to do the following:

  1. Explain the purposes of dating outlined in the course, and outline the six levels of dating.
  2. Plan, ask for, and accept an invitation to a date using honesty, grace, humor, and respect.
  3. Explain what girls look for and what guys look for in dates.
  4. Evaluate your own characteristics that affect dating.
  5. List the dangers of sex in dating and recognize your ability to control the sex drive.
  6. Strengthen your personal traits so that you can be a positive contributor to a relationship.
  7. Apply listening skills in relationships.
  8. Explain the components of love and the difference in consummate love and infatuation or romantic love.

Everything you'll need to successfully complete the course is contained in the course materials. There are no additional materials to acquire.

Assignments

The course contains eight units and a final examination. Each unit has several lessons. To help you master the work and to evaluate your own progress, each lesson has several self check quizzes. These quizzes do not count toward your grade.

Unit Quizzes

At the end of each unit you will complete a unit quiz. The unit quizzes count toward your grade.

Exams

The final is the only exam in this course. There are 50 questions on the exam, and it is closed book and closed notes but there is no time limit.

Grading

Each lesson contributes to your final grade, for a total of 85 percent. The final exam is worth the other 15 percent. The weighting is as follows:

Assignments

Summary: 8 computer-graded assignments, may be resubmitted once for a fee.

Final Exam

Summary: 1 proctored, computer-graded exam, may retake once for a fee

You must pass with a score of sixty percent or higher in order to pass and earn credit for this course. There is no time limit on the exam. You will not be allowed to reference any notes or course materials.

Course Duration

You have 1 year to complete this course. You may purchase one 3-month extension if you need more than a year to complete this course.

University Policy - Title IX Statement

Preventing & Responding to Sexual Misconduct

In accordance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Brigham Young University prohibits unlawful sex discrimination against any participant in its education programs or activities. The university also prohibits sexual harassment—including sexual violence—committed by or against students, university employees, and visitors to campus. University policy requires all university employees in a teaching, managerial, or supervisory role to report all incidents of Sexual Misconduct that come to their attention in any way, including but not limited to face-to-face conversations, a written class assignment or paper, class discussion, email, text, or social media post. Reports may also be submitted through EthicsPoint at https://titleix.byu.edu/report or 1-888-238-1062 (24-hours a day).
