What You Should Already Know

There are no prerequisites for this course. This course was designed for true beginners in the concepts of marketing.

Course Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, you should be able to do the following:

  1. Describe the marketing process and how it impacts our lives.
  2. Identify the basic marketing principles and the four P’s of the marketing mix.
  3. Explain the roles of channel members in the various marketing channels.
  4. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of the various forms of transportation.
  5. Explain market segmentation and target markets.
  6. Identify the major forms of promotion, and identify which form is best for reaching potential customers.
  7. Explain pricing strategies and how products are priced.

Course Materials

All of the required materials and information to complete this course are included in the course content. You do not need to purchase a textbook or any other materials for Marketing 41.

Course Organization

This course contains seven units. Each unit has three or four lessons. The objectives at the beginning of each unit describe the concepts that you should focus on in the unit. There is one objective for each lesson.

Assignments

Self Checks

After completing a lesson, answer the Self Check questions. These questions are a self-graded review of the material covered in that section and they will prepare you for the quizzes.

Unit Quizzes

After completing each unit, you will move on to the graded assignment. Use the feedback from the Self Check assignments to focus your study as you prepare for the quiz. All seven quizzes count toward your grade.

Exams

The final exam will have seventy multiple-choice questions. The exam questions will be similar to the questions in the unit quizzes. You should also know that units 1 and 2 are covered a little more heavily on the final than the other units. There is also a practice exam you may take to help you prepare for the final.

Keep in mind that the overall weight of the final exam is 30%.

Course Duration

You have 1 year to complete this course. You may purchase one 3-month extension if you need more than a year to complete the course.

University Policy - Title IX Statement

Preventing & Responding to Sexual Misconduct

In accordance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Brigham Young University prohibits unlawful sex discrimination against any participant in its education programs or activities. The university also prohibits sexual harassment—including sexual violence—committed by or against students, university employees, and visitors to campus. As outlined in university policy, sexual harassment, dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking are considered forms of "Sexual Misconduct" prohibited by the university.

University policy requires all university employees in a teaching, managerial, or supervisory role to report all incidents of Sexual Misconduct that come to their attention in any way, including but not limited to face-to-face conversations, a written class assignment or paper, class discussion, email, text, or social media post. Incidents of Sexual Misconduct should be reported to the Title IX Coordinator at t9coordinator@byu.edu or (801) 422-8692. Reports may also be submitted through EthicsPoint at https://titleix.byu.edu/report or 1-888-238-1062 (24-hours a day).
