Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Maternal and Child Health Improvement

    Identify behaviors that improve maternal and child health and how they may be specific for particular groups.

  2. Global Disease Determinants

    Discuss the determinants of global diseases and why inequalities and inequities exist.

  3. Culture and Optimal Health Behaviors

    Explain how culture, our own and those of others, facilitates or hinders practicing optimal health behaviors.

  4. Nutrition and Disease Morbidity and Mortality

    Discuss how undernutrition and overnutrition contribute to morbidity and mortality related to infectious and chronic disease.

  5. Morbidity and Mortality in Women and Children: Epidemiology

    Using principles of epidemiology, identify the leading causes of morbidity (sickness) and mortality among women and children in the developing world and compare the burden of disease across different regions of the world.

  6. Health Program Monitoring, Evaluation, and Research

    Describe how monitoring, evaluation, and applied research improve health programs.

  7. Health Behavior Strategies

    Discuss successful, evidence-based strategies for changing behaviors and improving health.

Assignments

  2. Reflection Posts are half-page posts (500 words) that demonstrate your reflection on the most important concepts you learned in the lessons. The lowest two reflection post scores will be dropped.  
  3. Global Health Challenge is a three-part assignment where you create a country profile, explain how a health problem impacts the country, and identify a partner and approach to addressing the health problem.

University Policy - Title IX Statement

Preventing & Responding to Sexual Misconduct

In accordance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Brigham Young University prohibits unlawful sex discrimination against any participant in its education programs or activities. The university also prohibits sexual harassment—including sexual violence—committed by or against students, university employees, and visitors to campus. As outlined in university policy, sexual harassment, dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking are considered forms of "Sexual Misconduct" prohibited by the university.

University policy requires all university employees in a teaching, managerial, or supervisory role to report all incidents of Sexual Misconduct that come to their attention in any way, including but not limited to face-to-face conversations, a written class assignment or paper, class discussion, email, text, or social media post. Incidents of Sexual Misconduct should be reported to the Title IX Coordinator at t9coordinator@byu.edu or (801) 422-8692. Reports may also be submitted through EthicsPoint at https://titleix.byu.edu/report or 1-888-238-1062 (24-hours a day).

1 Global Health Challenge is a three-part assignment where you create a country profile, explain how a health problem impacts the country, and identify a partner and approach to addressing the health problem.

None of the assignments may be resubmitted.

Exams

There is 1 proctored, computer graded midcourse exam and 1 proctored, computer graded final exam. You must pass the final exam to pass the course. The final exam can be retaken once for a fee. The midcourse exam cannot be retaken.
 
Retake the final exam for a fee.
