You are responsible for reading all of the online material as well as any assigned text reading. This will be assessed through writing responses and exams.
You will complete a variety of writing assignments to demonstrate your synthesis of online learning materials and textbook readings (15 entries at 30 points each). These are expected to be at least one page double spaced (250–300 words) in length unless otherwise specified.
For each lesson, spend at least 10 minutes researching health topics of your choice online at reputable sites designed for this purpose. Here are some examples of good sources:
Take notes on what you learn from your online research and write down thoughts, ideas, and questions for future searching.
The purpose of this diagnosis journal is to build a personal reference about common health issues and basic human anatomy and physiology and the impacts of various conditions on a variety of domains.
The ability to summarize, synthesize, and simplify health information will be a critical step in being able to provide developmentally appropriate explanations to children. It is also important to understand how this condition will affect them.
You may structure this journal in your own way, but at least one page double spaced (250-300 words) and one web reference per entry is required. Make sure to write about the social and emotional impact of each diagnosis. The entry should not simply be content lifted from a health website. (15 entries at 10 points each.)
You will complete five child life practice assignments during the course. The purpose of these assignments is to help you gain more practical application experience and use theories and knowledge of child development to prepare you for more direct interaction in healthcare situations. Your responses to these assignments should be about 500 words (two pages double spaced) long. (5 assignments at 30 points each.)
You will take a midcourse exam (100 points) and a comprehensive final exam (150 points). Both exams consist of multiple-choice and true/false questions. The exams are closed book and notes, but do not have a time limit.
