Description:

Students will explore the major historical events, personalities, and cultures of three groups in the Eastern Hemisphere: Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Each region will be addressed within the framework of early history, more recent history, and present-day circumstances. This is the first course in a two-part World History series (HIST 062 and HIST 064); however, each course may be taken independently.

Unit 1: The Byzantine Civilization and Arab Empire
Unit 2: The Middle East Today
Unit 3: Early African History
Unit 4: The Partition of Africa
Unit 5: Present-Day Africa
Unit 6: Early Asia
Unit 7: Asia and the West
Unit 8: Present-Day Asia

Course materials are accessed online, and all assignments must be submitted online. Optional course readings may be available but do not include the self-check assignments or graded assignments.
