Teacher-Led Course (TL)
Prerequisite:First-Year Chinese, Part 1 (CHIN 041) or equivalent.
Description:Lessons provide a fundamental introduction to Mandarin Chinese by focusing on pinyin and character review, pronunciation, grammar, tones, and simplified Chinese characters. This course enables students to gain cultural understanding as well as improve their writing and speaking abilities. Beyond traditional course material, First-Year Chinese, Part 2 makes use of a Conversation Café that gives students the opportunity to speak with other students, teaching assistants, and the instructor to practice what they are learning. Live instructor-led lesson broadcasts are also available to students. This is the second course in a four-part Chinese series (CHIN 041, CHIN 043, CHIN 051, and CHIN 053) and is a continuation of First-Year Chinese, Part 1 (CHIN 041).

All students will gain access (at no cost) to the online textbook as well as MyChineseLab (the online interactive workbook associated with the textbook) in the first checkpoint/course orientation. Students are required to have a webcam, microphone, and speakers to conduct speaking appointments. Speaking appointments take place in every lesson, including the final exam. A printer/scanner is necessary for students to complete required written assignments.
Due to the nature of this course’s learning outcomes, the exams are only available in a paper format. Please plan for shipping time.
