Description:

In this course, students will learn conversation patterns and basic grammar; read and write about familiar topics; and gain an overview of German geography, history, and lifestyle. This course features new interactive elements: live instructor-led orientations and weekly lesson review activities, live one-on-one speaking appointments, a student discussion board, and an instructor-hosted wiki. There is specific emphasis on speaking and comprehension, as well as reading and writing. This is the first course in a four-part German series (GERM 041, GERM 043, GERM 051, and GERM 053) and is an introduction to German language and culture.

Course Content:

Lesson 1 Der Reisepass - the Passport
Lesson 2 Hans und Heide aus Hamburg
Lesson 3 Bernd und Brigitte aus Berlin
Lesson 4 Kurt und Korinna aus K?ln
Lesson 5 Detlef und Dora aus Dresden
Lesson 6 Manfred und Monika aus M?nchen

Notes:

A headset/speakers and microphone are necessary to conduct required speaking appointments; a webcam is preferred but not required. For optimal connection speeds during speaking appointments, it is recommended that you use a hard-wired, high-speed internet connection during the appointment. Students will learn conversation patterns, basic grammar, reading and writing about familiar topics, and an overview of German geography, history, and lifestyle. This course also features new interactive elements: live instructor-led orientations and weekly lesson review activities, live one-on-one speaking appointments, a student discussion board, and an instructor-hosted wiki.
