Prerequisite:

Algebra 1, Part 2 (ALG 053) or equivalent.

Description:

This is an introductory chemistry course that includes topics such as matter and energy, the atomic theory, electron clouds and probability, the periodic table, chemical bonding, chemical formulas, and balancing equations. This course has few mathematical computations and includes several virtual lab demonstrations. This is the first half of a two-part General Chemistry series (CHEM 041 and CHEM 043).

Paper Courses:

Assignments for this course can be submitted online or by mail, email, or fax. If you do not have reliable internet access the optional course packet includes bubble sheets to be mailed.

Notes:

Students will need a scientific calculator and a computer with CD-ROM drive (Windows 2000/Mac OS X or newer). Virtual Chem Lab software does not currently work with the latest version of Mac OS (10.7). You will have to use this software on a PC, or an older version of Mac OS.
